The Residence
The Würzburg Residence, the former palace of the prince-bishops, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside is the famous staircase with a huge ceiling fresco, and behind the palace a landscaped garden.
The Old Main Bridge
The old stone bridge lined with statues of saints leads from the centre towards the fortress. In summer people gather on it with a glass of local wine, and the view of the river and hills is one of the best in town.
Marienberg Fortress
Across the bridge and uphill you reach Marienberg Fortress. The climb takes a while but is worth it: from the top you can see the whole city, the Main and the vineyards on the slopes.
Franconian wine
Würzburg is the centre of the Franconian wine region. Wine here is traditionally bottled in a distinctive flattened bottle, which makes a nice souvenir.
