The Kaiserburg

Above the old town rises the imperial castle, the Kaiserburg, once one of the most important strongholds of the German emperors. Climb up for the view over the rooftops, especially lovely before sunset.

Dürer's house

Just below the castle is the house where the painter Albrecht Dürer, Nuremberg's most famous son, lived and worked. The streets around it are among the prettiest in the old town.

The main square and the Beautiful Fountain

On the main market square stands the Schöner Brunnen, the Beautiful Fountain, a tall Gothic fountain covered with figures. Here you will also find the Frauenkirche, whose clock with moving figures is one of the symbols of the city.

The Christmas market and sausages

In December the main square hosts the Christkindlesmarkt, one of the best-known Christmas markets in Germany. At any time of year, try Nuremberg's small, thin sausages, served several at a time in a bread roll.
