Burgplatz
On the Burgplatz stands the bronze lion, symbol of the city, in front of Dankwarderode Castle. Right next to it is the cathedral where Henry the Lion is buried.
Happy Rizzi House
The brightly coloured building with hearts, faces and cats on its facade, designed by the artist James Rizzi, is one of the most photographed in the city.
The old town
Around the Altstadtmarkt and Kohlmarkt squares, half-timbered houses and a Gothic town hall survive, and the streets are full of cafés.
