The house where Beethoven was born in 1770 is now a museum with his instruments, manuscripts and personal belongings.

The market square is dominated by the pink Baroque old town hall, and a market is held around it every day except Sunday.

In spring some streets in the old town are covered by flowering cherry trees, and people come from all over Germany to photograph them.
Drachenfels
Just across the river is the Drachenfels hill with a ruined castle and a view of the Rhine valley. An old rack railway runs to the top.
