Passport validity

Before you travel, check when your passport expires. To enter the Schengen area, your passport should be valid for at least three months after your planned return, so if it expires soon, renew it in time.

The new EES system

From October 2025 a new electronic Entry/Exit System (EES) was gradually introduced at the external borders of the European Union, and since April 2026 it has been fully in use. On your first entry you are registered, so the first crossing may take a little longer than before. After that it is quicker.

The 90-in-180 rule

Serbian citizens can stay in the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The new system now records this precisely, so keep track of your days if you travel often.

ETIAS

The European Union has also announced ETIAS, an electronic travel authorisation that citizens of visa-free countries will need before travelling. Before your trip, check on the official EU website whether ETIAS has started.

Check before you go

Rules change, so the safest thing is to check the official EU travel website or the website of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before every trip. If you are not sure, ask us when you book.
